The Velvet Ace Whodunit

On October 10 we threw a Nightcapers party. A 1920s casino, eleven guests, one dead boss in the ice bath. Starting Wednesday, October 21, we post the clues from that night, one at a time, on the Nightcapers Facebook and Instagram pages. Follow along, work it out, and tell us who did it.

Everyone who names the right killer goes into a drawing. Three winners each get a Nightcapers kit, free, to throw their own party. Everyone who enters gets a code for 20 percent off a kit.

How to play

  1. Follow Nightcapers on Facebook or Instagram. The clues are posted there, one at a time.
  2. Read the clues as they come. Each one comes straight from the real kit: the cards, the evidence, the objects on the table.
  3. When you think you know, send your guess through the form at the bottom of this page. One guess per person. Your first guess is your entry.
  4. Want a second entry? Comment on any clue post. Any comment counts, once per person. Just keep your guess out of it.
  5. Entries close Friday, November 6, 2026 at 11:59 PM Eastern. We draw three names at random from the correct guesses and announce them on the page and by email on Monday, November 9.

Do not post your guess in the comments. A guess in the comments is not an entry, and it spoils the game for everyone behind you.

Official rules

  1. Sponsor. Nightcapers, operated by Curtis Caudill, Greensboro, North Carolina. Contact: hello@nightcapers.com.
  2. No purchase necessary. Entering is free. Buying a kit does not improve your chances.
  3. Eligibility. Open to legal residents of the United States who are 18 or older at the time of entry. Not eligible: the sponsor and members of its household, and anyone who attended the October 10, 2026 party or lives with someone who did. Void where prohibited.
  4. Entry period. Wednesday, October 21, 2026 at 12:00 PM Eastern through Friday, November 6, 2026 at 11:59 PM Eastern.
  5. How to enter. Submit one guess through the entry form on this page, with your name, email, and the name you use on Facebook or Instagram. One entry per person and per email address. Guesses sent by any other route, including comments, messages or mail, are not entries.
  6. Bonus entry. One additional entry for commenting on any clue post on the Nightcapers Facebook or Instagram page during the entry period. One bonus per person regardless of the number of comments. The comment does not need to contain a guess. Comments that are abusive or spam do not count.
  7. Drawing. Three winners are drawn at random from all entries that name the correct character, within three days after the entry period closes. A person with a bonus entry is in the drawing twice. One prize per person. If fewer than three entries are correct, the remaining winners are drawn at random from all entries.
  8. Winner notification. By email within three days of the drawing. A winner has seven days to reply. If they do not, or are not eligible, another name is drawn.
  9. Prizes. Three prizes, each one Nightcapers kit as a one-use code, approximate retail value $24.99. No substitution or cash. Winners are responsible for any taxes.
  10. Entrant code. Every eligible entrant receives, by email after the drawing, a code for 20 percent off one kit, valid through December 31, 2026. One per person. Not combinable with other offers.
  11. Publicity. By entering, you agree we may announce a winner’s first name and last initial on our pages and site. Nothing else about you is published.
  12. Privacy. Your name, email and social media name are used to run this drawing, verify bonus entries, and send the result and your code. They are not added to any mailing list unless you tick the box on the form. They are handled under the Nightcapers privacy policy.
  13. Facebook and Instagram. This promotion is in no way sponsored, endorsed, administered by, or associated with Facebook, Instagram or Meta. You release them from any responsibility for it.
  14. General. We may cancel or change the drawing if it cannot run as planned. Disputes are governed by the laws of North Carolina.
